All below the work, 2019
All below the work ~ Soot cover the glass surface causing the supporting material to withdraw on one side. This simultaneous action of accumulation and erasure, and the interstitial characteristics of soot follows my interest in material affects on the body, environment, and our sensory relations. The work emphasises bodily and spatial concerns through both the position of my body below the work as I made it, the slow duration of the production of soot, and experiences of closeness and distance in the viewing experience. Materials: Soot, toughened glass, custom made steel frame. This work was made on site for the exhibited in NOT PHOTOGRAPHY, Bankley Gallery, Manchester. 2019 |
