Not somewhere else but here* 2017

Not somewhere else, but here* is a critical, self-reflective, and poetic conversation that takes the form of photographic documentation a two-voice reading and between Jules Davis-Dufayard and I. It includes extracts of conversations the people we met during The Penthouse IMPOSE||LIFT residency at the Curfew Tower in Cushendall, Northern Ireland in 2017, and includes journal entries, annotations, photographs and sound. These footnotes and asides interrupt and expand upon our original thoughts in an attempt to capture moments of encounters, discovery and impulse to explore and recognise the multiplicity of voices and experiences and the impossibility to faithfully reproduce a moment. We shared this work during the ‘Slowing and stilling: foregrounding process in performance practices’ conference at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in partnership with Birmingham International Dance Festival from June 11th-12th 2018 *title borrowed from Adrienne Rich’s poem, 1974 |
