The shifting perspective of muscle, connective tissue, and bone. The ache of cells exploring their memory, 2023-2024 (series)
|
The works in this series contemplate mending, joining, and reimagining methods of holding together fragments of body, self, and landscape. The series began during an extended period in hospital while I underwent treatment for a cancer relapse and experienced the physical and neurological effects of grafting with cells: fever-induced hallucinations and vivid dreams urging her body to accept cells that had travelled the world before returning to her in a clear plastic bag. These experiences inform my understanding of how material behaviour, biological processes, and bodily states intersect, and continue to shape my work from 2023 ongoing exploration of weaving and the ways craft, fragility, resilience, and disability intertwine.
